Kano Sharia Court Orders Remand of Five Suspects in Baby Sale Case

In a significant legal development, a Kano State Sharia court, situated in Kwana Hudu, has issued an order for the remand of five individuals.

These individuals are accused of attempting to sell an eight-day-old baby for the sum of N30 million.

The Suspects and Their Alleged Scheme

The suspects involved in this case are Kabiru Ibrahim Sauna, Musa Ismail, Hadiza Ibrahim, Ismail Musa, and Isyaku Lawan.

According to the accusations, they had reportedly contracted a resident named Hadiza Ibrahim, residing in Sabon Gari in Fagge Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano, with the task of procuring a newborn baby, not exceeding eight days old, on their behalf. The promise extended to her was a substantial sum of N30 million.

Charges and Pleas

During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, Aliyul Abideen, formally read the charges against the accused individuals.

In response, the first and second defendants entered pleas of not guilty.

In contrast, the third, fourth, and fifth defendants pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.

Request for Sentencing Date

Following the differing pleas from the defendants, the prosecutor appealed to the court to schedule a date for the sentencing of those who had admitted guilt.

Remand and Adjournment

In response to the proceedings, the Khadi, identified as Malam Nura Yusuf Ahmad, issued an order for the remand of the accused individuals in prison custody.

Additionally, he adjourned the case to October 26, 2023, signaling the continuation of legal proceedings in this concerning matter.
