Court orders electricity supply to all properties where disputes were declared in Emfuleni Local Municipality

The Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court granted the Emfuleni Local Municipality (Evaton, Sebokeng, Vaal Oewer, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging) a bloody nose on Friday, 5 March, and ordered that electricity supply to all properties where disputes were declared with the municipality be repaired.

The FF Plus supports the Emfuleni taxpayers association which took the initiative to represent the 3 964 affected taxpayers and take the municipality to court.

It is unfair to treat people involved in a dispute as defaulters.

The court also ordered the Emfuleni Municipality to set up a dispute committee to hear these types of cases and to follow the correct procedures before imposing sanctions.

Residents have declared disputes with the municipality over, among other things, faulty power bills and incorrect meter readings.

There are still about 4,000 disputes dealing with sewage flowing through homes and plots and the non-removal of garbage.

The FF Plus supports organizations that put the interests of taxpayers first and the party will do everything in its power to protect the interests of residents.
