Cleveland Police Cite Browns Rookie Shedeur Sanders for Speeding at Over 100 Miles Per Hour in Strongsville Amidst Draft Controversy

Just when the dust was starting to settle on his unexpected NFL Draft journey, Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has made headlines again — but this time, it’s not about football.

The 23-year-old son of NFL legend Deion Sanders is now facing a speeding citation after reportedly being caught driving at over 100 mph in Ohio.

Late-Night Speeding Incident in Cleveland

According to reports from local station Fox9, Sanders was pulled over in Strongsville, a suburb of Cleveland, around 12:24 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17.

He was allegedly clocked driving at 101 miles per hour — that’s 41 mph over the speed limit.

Police issued Sanders a citation at the scene.

That leaves him with two options: pay the fine or contest the charge in court.

No official comment has been released yet from Sanders or the Cleveland Browns.

Draft Fall Still Fresh in Everyone’s Minds

Sanders’ name has already been at the center of NFL buzz this year, but for less-than-ideal reasons.

Once considered a sure-fire first-round pick — even projected by some as a top-five selection — Shedeur saw one of the most dramatic draft-day slides in recent history.

Despite his strong performance at Colorado, where he threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in his final college season, Sanders didn’t get picked until the fifth round.

He went 144th overall to the Browns, long after Cleveland had already taken Oregon’s quarterback Bo Nix.

Rumors of Poor Interviews Resurface

A big part of why teams may have passed on Sanders? According to NFL insider Jonathan Jones, Sanders didn’t exactly give off the best vibes in his pre-draft interviews.

Some teams reportedly felt he lacked enthusiasm or effort in meetings, especially with franchises he may not have wanted to join.

“He more or less sandbagged in those interviews,” Jones said during the lead-up to the draft.

“He didn’t give it his all, and it rubbed some teams the wrong way.”

Combine Comments That Turned Heads

Shedeur didn’t help his case much at the NFL Combine either.

While speaking to reporters, he made bold claims that rubbed some folks the wrong way, including comparisons between his college success and what he believed he could bring to the NFL.

“We went from Jackson State to Colorado and changed two programs back-to-back,” he said confidently.

“You don’t think I could come to an NFL franchise and change a program again? It’s history. It’s always going to repeat itself.”

Though many admired the confidence, others saw it as cocky or premature — especially considering his later-than-expected draft selection.

What’s Next for Sanders?

This speeding citation adds another bump in the road for a rookie still trying to find his footing in the NFL spotlight.

With his draft slide still fresh and public perception still being shaped, this latest incident probably isn’t helping matters.

Whether this becomes just a small footnote or part of a larger narrative depends on how Sanders handles things going forward — both on and off the field.
