CBN, FAAN Relocation Okupe Knocks Ndume, Labeling Threat Against Tinubu as Demeaning

Doyin Okupe Criticizes Senator Ndume’s Opposition to CBN and FAAN Relocation

Former presidential aide, Doyin Okupe, has strongly criticized Chief Whip of the Senate, Ali Ndume, for his stance on the proposed relocation of certain departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos.

Ndume had expressed concern over potential political consequences and questioned the advice the president is receiving.

Okupe Deems Ndume’s Position Provocative

Responding to Ndume’s statement through an open letter titled “RE: Movement of some parastatals to Lagos by the Federal Government,” Okupe labeled the senator’s position as “provocative” and “unexpected.”

Despite Ndume’s extensive political experience, Okupe expressed disappointment in what he perceived as a lack of equanimity and maturity in handling the situation.

Unwarranted Threats Against President Tinubu

In the open letter, Okupe specifically addressed Ndume’s threat of political consequences against President Bola Tinubu, deeming it unwarranted and demeaning.

Okupe emphasized that, given the fragile nature of Nigeria’s democracy, political leaders should exercise circumspection and forbearance rather than resorting to threats and confrontation.

Nigeria’s Administrative Challenges

Okupe highlighted the historical challenges in Nigeria’s administrative and political landscape.

He questioned the rationale behind locating major military installations and institutions in the North and raised examples such as the Nigerian Port Authority and the Nigerian Customs being situated in Abuja.

Okupe argued that the nation is yet to evolve into a true nation-state, leading to continued administrative and political uncertainties.

Evolving a True Nation-State

Concluding his letter, Okupe suggested that Nigeria may need to navigate through administrative and political challenges until a national elitist consensus is achieved.

He emphasized the importance of building a true, united, and virile nation, acknowledging the complexities and nuances inherent in the nation’s journey towards becoming a cohesive entity.
