Car crashes into pole on State Highway 5, north of Taupō

A person is critically injured after a car crashed into a pole on State Highway 5, north of Taupō, on Saturday night.

The crash occurred about 10:25pm around Tahorakuri Forest.

Emergency services were responding late on Saturday night. A rescue helicopter was dispatched to the area following the crash.

Road closures were being put in place, and Police said the Serious Crash Unit would be attending the scene.

Motorists should avoid the area or expect delays.
