Candace Powell Details the Collapse of Her Marriage Following the Family’s Move from Ohio to Florida for Husband’s Career Transfer

Candace Powell, a mother of two from Ohio, recently shared how her marriage unraveled after her then-husband, Erik Ganger, decided to relocate their family to Florida for a new job opportunity.

The couple had always dreamed of living by the Florida shores, and when Ganger was offered a job transfer in 2017, they seized the chance.

Despite their reservations about the move—concerns about Powell’s career, their children’s adjustment without nearby family, and the overall cost—they decided to go ahead with the relocation.

Powell, writing for Business Insider, described the move as fraught with problems from the start. Her husband had to start his new job immediately, leaving Powell behind in Ohio.

She found herself juggling the responsibilities of a single mother—handling dinner, homework, and bedtime alone.

Meanwhile, Ganger was busy “living the life we planned together,” as Powell put it, while she struggled with the day-to-day challenges of managing their household on her own.

Struggling to Adjust

After three months, Powell and their children joined Ganger in Florida, but the transition was far from smooth. Powell noticed that her husband had already settled into his new life, deeply immersed in local culture and routines.

He had explored local restaurants and established new favorite spots, making it seem like he was enjoying a single life apart from his family.

Powell felt like she was trying to fit into a life that wasn’t her own, and the adjustment period was overwhelming.

A Tough Decision

Their children, meanwhile, had a hard time adapting and often cried about missing their old home, family, and friends.

With growing regrets and frequent arguments, Powell and Ganger decided to return to Ohio for the sake of their children.

However, their attempt to rebuild their life in Ohio was short-lived.

Just three months after their return, Ganger left the family, filing for divorce after 14 years of marriage.

Powell and the kids remained in their family home.

Moving Forward

In retrospect, Powell wished she had focused more on addressing the issues in her marriage rather than getting caught up in the allure of a new life in Florida.

Since the divorce, Powell has remarried, and Ganger has also moved on with a new partner.
