Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Federation’s Government, reminded the council about the regrettable incident just before the meeting began.
He said: “Bandits had laid improvised explosive devices on the rail tracks and a passenger train was demobilised on Monday, leading to the death of eight Nigerians. 46 others sustained various degrees of injury and some were kidnapped but the exact number of the kidnapped is yet to be established.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari is presiding over the Federal Executive Council’s virtual meeting, which is taking place in the council chambers of the State House in Abuja.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Secretary to the Federation’s Government, Boss Mustapha, and the President’s Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, are among those physically present at the meeting, which began at 09:00 GMT.
Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, the Federation’s Head of Civil Service, Ministers of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, Justice, Abubakar Malami, and Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, are also present at the venue.
Niyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment; Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health; Sadiya Faruk, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs; Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour Employment; and Festus Keyamo, Minister of State Labour
Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, the Federation’s Head of Civil Service, and other Ministers are virtually present with other people from their different Abuja offices.
