Breaking: Flint Institute of Arts Unveils Updated Mission Statement and Logo: Emphasizing its Dual Role

Marking a significant milestone in its evolution, the Flint Institute of Arts (FIA) has introduced an updated mission statement and logo as a part of its strategic plan for 2023-2026. The updated agenda not only emphasizes its commitment to the visual arts but also highlights the institution’s dual role as both a museum and an art school.

Revised Mission Statement: A Dual Role

The revised mission statement now includes “Museum + Art School“, reflecting the FIA’s determination to connect communities through enriching visual art experiences. This underlines the FIA’s original purpose since its inception in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a vision that some institutes have abandoned. By distinguishing itself as both a museum and an art school, the FIA reestablishes its commitment to its foundational attributes.

FIA: A Global Museum and a National Art School

As a museum, the FIA exhibits a global collection of art, spanning from ancient to modern times. As an art school, it provides studio experiences for all ages, making it the third-largest museum-affiliated school in the nation. The FIA also extends its role as a venue for educational and experiential programming and special events.

New Logo and Branding Statement

Embodying the institute’s multifaceted nature, the new logo features a triptych design, with colors symbolizing renewal, happiness, and strength. “Art Brings Us Together“, the FIA’s new branding statement, encapsulates their vision of uniting communities through the power of art.

As a part of its community outreach, the FIA offers free admission to Genesee County residents, along with free glass-blowing demonstrations on weekends. Through this strategic plan, the FIA invites community members to engage and experience the unifying power of art.
