Incredibly graphic video shows a priest in the state of Ceará in northern Brazil slam into a lake while dozing at the wheel of a pickup truck.
Just before the terrifying collision on Tuesday, Father Antonio José was operating the parish’s Ford Ranger on the highway CE-179 that links the towns of Sobral and Groaras.
Just seconds before the priest drove the pickup truck careening into the lagoon, a driver with their iPhone out was able to capture the incident on camera.
In the moments before Father Antonio José was able to recover control of the car, the footage showed the vehicle slamming into a thin cement barrier.
However, he was unable to maintain straight on the road and drifted back into the matching traffic lane.
The pickup vehicle then took a detour off the road, rolled over, and fell into the lake.
According to the Groaras municipal authorities, he and the three passengers he was riding with were saved and managed to escape with just minor wounds.
