Bob Arum Urges Tyson Fury to Stay Retired and Focus on Life Beyond Boxing After Rumours of a Comeback Circulate

Tyson Fury’s decision to retire earlier this year left the boxing world in shock, but as speculation continues to swirl about a potential return, promoter Bob Arum has weighed in on what he thinks Fury should do next.

After announcing his retirement following a pair of defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, Fury’s name has resurfaced in the headlines, especially with ongoing rumors about a potential showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Arum’s Advice for Fury’s Future

Arum, who has been a long-time promoter of Fury since 2019, has shared his opinion about what the heavyweight champion should focus on.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Arum advised Fury to stick to his retirement and continue enjoying life outside of the ring.

“I think Tyson Fury owes it to himself and his family to remain happily retired,” said Arum.

While acknowledging that Fury has much ahead of him, including his ability as a communicator and entertainer, Arum emphasized that returning to the ring may not be the best choice.

According to Arum, Fury has already earned enough during his career to ensure financial security for himself and his loved ones.

“I would advise him not to ever go back in the ring but to make himself useful as a spokesperson,” he added, recognizing Fury’s unique ability to engage people and his potential to do a lot of good off the boxing stage.

The Joshua Fight That Never Happened

Fans have been clamoring for a match between Fury and Anthony Joshua for years, hoping the two will finally face off to determine the best British heavyweight of their generation.

However, that long-awaited showdown has yet to materialize, and it’s unclear whether it ever will.

While some, like promoter Eddie Hearn, continue to hold out hope that Fury will come out of retirement to make the fight happen, Arum doesn’t believe the matchup is compelling enough to lure Fury back into the ring.

“I’m not a Brit, so I’m not as fascinated by an Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight as a Brit may be,” Arum explained, adding that he wasn’t personally invested in the fight happening.

That said, he made it clear that should Fury decide to make a return, Arum and his team at Top Rank would be happy to help.

The Decision Ultimately Lies with Fury

While Arum has expressed his personal feelings about Fury’s future, he also recognizes that the decision ultimately lies with Fury himself.

“Tyson Fury is very smart and very bright,” Arum said. “It would be somebody who decided of his own volition to come back, and if he wanted us involved, I would happily be involved.”

It seems that while Arum has a clear preference for Fury to remain retired, he’s not ruling out the possibility of being part of a comeback if that’s what Fury decides.

The world will have to wait and see if Tyson Fury decides to step back into the ring or follow Arum’s advice to focus on his life outside of boxing.
