The Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo has challenged journalists to be factual, sound and objective while carrying out their reportage.
Right Reverend Nwokolo stated this at the Bishop’s Court, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, when the newly elected executive of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Chapter, paid him a familiarization visit.
Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor Okoye was among the team, and reports that Right Reverend Nwokolo who said he is proud of the members of the pen profession said journalist have continued to do selfless services to the nation including fighting for the under privileged and ensuring that there is fairness, justice and truth
He urged the media to uphold ethics, present the church in the right perspective as there are so many enemies fighting the propagation of the gospel and mission work even as he appealed to them to work together as a team, remain truthful as according to him honesty and principles impart values to the society.
Earlier in a speech, the new Chairman, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu said the visit was to familiarize with the bishop and appreciate him for the work of evangelism he is doing at the Diocese on the Niger, stating that they are the foundation of evangelism in this part of the world as the early missionaries started in Onitsha.
Dr Odogwu described Right Reverend Nwokolo as a bible based and charismatic prelate who live out to the call of God in his ministry, pointing out that the council is expecting to welcome two of the Diocesan media organ in NUJ Anambra State while soliciting for his support for the media heads and parastatals summit to be hosted by the diocese.
In a remark, the State Vice Chairman of the Council, Comrade Ngozi Obileri appreciated the bishop for the warm reception accorded them saying that Diocese on the Niger as the foundation base of Christianity in eastern region, requested that the diocese should involve journalist at the state in the activities so as to help to disseminate and carry their programs to all the nook and crannies of the society.
Special prayers for successful reign of the new executives were offered by Bishop Nwokolo.
