Today, July 5, 2022, I’m unveiling the shortlist of the best probable locations for Great British Railways’ (GBR) national headquarters, which will then be put to a consultative public vote that will be conducted online and by mail.
The following cities and towns have been officially shortlisted:
Birmingham
Crewe
Derby \sDoncaster
York, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
On October 4, 2021, I declared that a competition would be held to choose GBR’s new headquarters, which would be outside of London.
The GBR Transition Team oversaw its debut on February 5th, 2022. (GBRTT). By Wednesday, March 16, GBRTT requested a brief expression of interest from prospective local authorities.
42 applications were received, and GBRTT evaluated each one’s suitability in light of the stated list of requirements for the national headquarters.
The criteria for selection are:
alignment with Levelling Up principles accessibility to possibilities for GBR at a reasonable price rail heritage and connections to the network public support
Today, GBRTT will begin a public vote that will allow the general public to voice their opinions.
The vote is advisory and will be used to gauge public support for each location that has been nominated, giving those the railway serves the chance to voice their opinions.
On the basis of all the data obtained and in comparison to the aforementioned standards, ministers will then decide where the headquarters will be, with a final decision anticipated later in the year.
The new GBR national headquarters will be backed up by a number of new regional GBR headquarters spread out around the nation, putting investment and decision-making at the center of the communities that utilize those railways on a daily basis.
The administration is dedicated to raising the bar, creating jobs, and encouraging investment outside of the capital.
The national headquarters, which will be at the center of the rail system, will offer strategic guidance for managing GBR. It will bring several high-skilled employment to the winning location and is based outside of London.
