BBC Delays Launch of Celebrity Race Across The World Following Morocco Earthquake

The BBC has decided to postpone the premiere of Celebrity Race Across The World just days before it was scheduled to air. The series was originally set to debut on BBC One at 9 pm on Wednesday, September 13, but this plan was altered due to the tragic earthquake that struck Morocco.

Earthquake Tragedy in Morocco

The deadly earthquake occurred south of Marrakesh on Friday night, resulting in the loss of nearly 2,500 lives and leaving numerous others injured. This 6.8-magnitude earthquake is the most significant seismic event to impact Morocco in over 120 years, causing widespread devastation.

A Journey Begins in Marrakesh

The initial episode of Celebrity Race Across The World was slated to feature the stars commencing their adventure in Marrakesh, Morocco. From there, they would embark on a challenging journey spanning 24 countries and covering a distance of 10,000 km, with the final destination being Tromsø, Norway.

Postponement Decision and Future Plans

A spokesperson for the BBC stated, ‘In light of the earthquake in Morocco, we have taken the decision to postpone the first episode of Celebrity Race Across the World, which was filmed in Marrakesh. We’ll update on new schedule details shortly.’

Stellar Cast and Their Motivations

The series includes well-known celebrities and their loved ones, such as Alex Beresford with his father Noel, and Harry Judd with his mother Emma. Other participants include Billy Monger and his sister Bonny, as well as Melanie Blatt with her mother Helene. Speaking about the challenges they faced, Alex Beresford expressed concern about making the right choices and taking calculated gambles during the journey. Harry Judd viewed this opportunity as unique, especially considering his age and family commitments, making it a fulfilling adventure for both him and his mother.

The delay in the series launch reflects the BBC’s sensitivity to the devastating earthquake in Morocco and its impact on the region. New scheduling details for Celebrity Race Across The World will be provided in due course.
