Basketmouth Unveils New Album ‘Uburu’ with Star-Studded Lineup and Special Guest Shatta Wale

Renowned Nigerian comedian and producer, Bright Okpocha, known by his stage name, Basketmouth, has made an exciting announcement about his upcoming studio album titled “Uburu.”

Shatta Wale’s Generosity

At an album listening party held in Lagos on September 10, 2023, the 44-year-old entertainer revealed an intriguing detail about the album.

He shared that Ghanaian superstar Shatta Wale had contributed to the album’s first song, “Goalkeeper,” without charging any fee.

This generous gesture, as disclosed by Basketmouth, was Shatta Wale’s way of giving back to a long-standing friendship.

Dividing the Album: “Uburu”

The title of Basketmouth’s third studio album, “Uburu,” translates to “brain” in Igbo.

A unique aspect of this album is its division into two parts, each containing seven songs.

The first part of the album is set to be available for streaming from October 20, while fans can anticipate the release of the second part in February 2024.

“Party” featuring Peruzzi: A Monster Beat

The album’s official second track, “Party,” features the talented artist Peruzzi and serves as the lead single.

Basketmouth described the track as having an infectious vibe and an exceptional beat that had been waiting for the right melody for two years.

“Jolie Jollof” and Lojay’s Dedication

Basketmouth expressed his enthusiasm for another project, “Jolie Jollof,” and highlighted his relentless pursuit of the highly skilled artist Lojay for a feature.

Lojay’s remarkable dedication and work ethic, which Basketmouth described as “animalistic,” played a crucial role in shaping the project.

Collaboration Challenges and Victories

Basketmouth initially approached Tiwa Savage and later Ayra Starr for the “Cover Me” track on “Uburu,” but due to touring commitments, neither artist was available.

After a two-year wait since Victony’s contribution, Qing Madi was finally selected to lend her voice to the track.

The album also features three other songs, “Koko,” “Chasing Dreams,” and “Link Up,” the latter of which Basketmouth revealed was particularly special to him.

A Tapestry of Creative Collaborations

To enrich the album’s diverse sound, Basketmouth enlisted the talents of Bayanni, Duktor Sett, Falz, Laycon, Timi Dakolo, Torrian Bell, Paladin, and Reminisce, each contributing their unique skills and creativity to the project.

Commentary

Basketmouth’s announcement of his new album “Uburu” showcases not only his passion for music but also the intricate web of collaborations and creative processes that make up the music industry.

Shatta Wale’s generosity and the division of the album into two parts add interesting dimensions to the project.

Basketmouth’s journey to find the right artists for his tracks, his admiration for their work ethics, and the hurdles he faced along the way reflect the dynamic nature of music creation.
