Barcelona Emerges as Front-Runner in Race to Sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United with Multiple Clubs, Including Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, Showing Strong Interest

Marcus Rashford’s time at Manchester United could be coming to an end, with the star forward weighing his options after a challenging period at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old England international has been in talks with several top European clubs, considering his next move as United looks to offload him.

Transfer Discussions Heat Up

Earlier this week, Rashford’s brothers were granted permission by Manchester United to discuss potential transfers with multiple interested teams.

These included AC Milan, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund. Notably, Ligue 1 club Monaco has also entered the fray, expressing interest in signing the forward.

Monaco is currently sitting third in the league and has an opportunity to secure a Champions League spot next season.

Premier League clubs, including West Ham, have also shown interest, adding more intrigue to Rashford’s potential move.

Despite the variety of suitors, Barcelona appears to be Rashford’s preferred destination, though United believes the interest from AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus is stronger at the moment.

A Loan or Permanent Move?

United is open to negotiating a loan deal, and they’re using Jadon Sancho’s loan move to Borussia Dortmund last season as a potential model.

This arrangement was performance-related, where the loan fee increased based on appearances and success.

The Red Devils are realistic about Rashford’s current value, which is estimated at £60 million, and his high wage of over £350,000 per week.

Given Rashford’s recent form, it’s unlikely any club will match that salary, so negotiations will focus on who can take on the most of his wage costs.

Barcelona now has the financial flexibility to spend in January, making them a viable candidate for a loan move, but United needs to determine whether they can cover the majority of Rashford’s salary.

Further talks are expected in the coming days between Rashford’s representatives and the interested clubs.

A Shaky Relationship at United

Rashford’s relationship with United coach Ruben Amorim has become strained, with the forward being dropped from the starting lineup after criticism regarding his training performances.

Amorim has yet to play Rashford since a brief appearance as a substitute against Nottingham Forest on December 7.

Rashford also missed the recent Premier League matches, including United’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle, which saw him relegated to the bench.

Despite this, Rashford seems ready to move on.

In an interview last month, he admitted he’s ready for a “new challenge,” hinting that his departure from Old Trafford is a matter of “when” rather than “if.”

Juventus, Dortmund, and More

Rashford’s representatives, including his brother and agent Dwaine Maynard, have been busy negotiating with a range of clubs.

Maynard met with Juventus officials on Wednesday and has also had talks with Borussia Dortmund.

Additionally, he was in Italy meeting with AC Milan officials to discuss a potential loan move.

Clubs like West Ham and Tottenham have also expressed interest, with Tottenham eager to strengthen their attacking options, despite being second in the Premier League’s top scorers list.

What’s United’s Preference?

Manchester United would ideally prefer a permanent deal for Rashford, with reports suggesting they are looking for a £40 million transfer fee.

However, with Rashford’s preference leaning toward a loan move, especially to Barcelona, it remains to be seen how United will handle negotiations.

Rashford had previously turned down lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, including three deals worth up to £35 million a year, signaling his desire to stay in European football for now.

The next few weeks will be crucial in determining where the talented forward lands next.
