Bakery Owner in Staten Island Denies Whoopi Goldberg’s Claim of Being Turned Away Over Political Views for Birthday Cake Order

Bakery Owner in Staten Island Denies Whoopi Goldberg’s Claim of Being Turned Away Over Political Views for Birthday Cake Order

A bakery in New York is speaking out after Whoopi Goldberg made accusations that it had refused to serve her due to her political views.

The controversy unfolded after Whoopi celebrated her 69th birthday on “The View” with her co-hosts, where she proudly displayed a variety of delicious treats, including items from Holtermann’s Bakery on Staten Island.

The Alleged Refusal

During the birthday celebration, Whoopi mentioned that she was initially turned away by the 145-year-old bakery.

According to her, the refusal was not based on her order but rather because of her political stance.

Whoopi suggested that the bakery’s decision to not fulfill her order was possibly influenced by her left-leaning views.

However, the bakery owner, Jill Holtermann, has now clarified the situation and addressed Whoopi’s claims.

Bakery Owner Sets the Record Straight

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jill Holtermann rejected the idea that Whoopi’s politics played a role in the bakery’s refusal.

Instead, she explained that the real reason for not fulfilling the order was due to technical issues with the bakery’s equipment.

Holtermann shared that the request was for Charlotte Russe desserts, a sponge cake topped with whipped cream and a cherry, to be served on the talk show for Whoopi’s birthday.

However, Holtermann explained that the bakery was experiencing problems with its boilers and equipment, which made it impossible for her to commit to the order at the time.

Equipment Issues, Not Politics

Jill Holtermann emphasized that her decision had nothing to do with Whoopi’s political views, but was solely based on the difficulties her bakery was facing with its aging equipment.

She explained that her building, which dates back to 1930, frequently experiences technical problems, and she didn’t want to promise an order she couldn’t guarantee.

When Whoopi called to place the order, Holtermann was unsure if the bakery would even be able to bake anything due to the boiler issues.

“I didn’t want to make a commitment that I can’t carry through,” Jill said.

Despite the initial refusal, Holtermann was able to fulfill part of the order and made about 50 treats, which were picked up early Wednesday morning.

Whoopi’s Birthday Celebration

On the latest episode of The View, Whoopi celebrated her birthday with her co-hosts, and during the celebration, she shared the Charlotte Russe desserts.

She also addressed the bakery’s refusal, stating, “Charlotte Russe has no political leanings. The place that made these refused to make them for me.

They said that their ovens had gone down, but folks went and got them anyway, which is why I’m not telling you who made them.”

While Whoopi hinted that her political views may have played a part in the refusal, she made it clear that the celebration was about her mother and her birthday.

“It’s not because I’m a woman, but perhaps they did not like my politics,” she said, adding, “But that’s okay, because you know what? This is my mother’s celebration.”

Political Beliefs and Public Image

Whoopi is known for being outspoken about her political beliefs, often sharing her opinions on The View.

She has also made it clear that she refuses to say Donald Trump’s name despite his election victory, a stance she’s maintained even as her co-hosts have criticized certain voter demographics.

This bakery controversy has only added to the ongoing public discussion about politics and personal beliefs in the world of celebrities and businesses.
