Former Anambra State Governor Granted Bail in N4 Billion Fraud Case

Bail Granted by Justice Inyang Ekwo

Former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, facing nine counts of alleged N4 billion fraud, has been granted bail by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The charges are related to actions purportedly committed during his tenure as governor of the South-East state from March 2014 to March 2022.

Plead of Not Guilty and Bail Conditions

On Wednesday, Obiano pleaded not guilty to the charges of money laundering brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Ekwo, in granting bail, ruled that the former governor should be confined to the court’s jurisdiction.

Furthermore, the court directed the EFCC to deposit Obiano’s travel documents with the court registrar and instructed the registrar to inform the Nigerian Immigration Service of this development.

Prosecution’s Request and Trial Continuation

The prosecution counsel, Slyvanus Tahir, SAN, sought the court’s permission to remand the former governor.

However, Justice Ekwo adjourned the case to March 4, 5, 6, and 7 for the continuation of the trial.

This development underscores the legal proceedings and conditions surrounding Obiano’s ongoing legal battle with the EFCC.
