The leader of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Yerima Shettima, has expressed his support for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as a potential Senate President for Nigeria.
Shettima emphasized Kalu’s capacity and the qualities needed for the position.
In light of this, he urged another aspirant, Abdulaziz Yari, to concede the Senate Presidency and allow Kalu to take the leadership role, citing religious balance and the promotion of peace and unity.
Religious Balance and Unity:
Shettima acknowledged that Yari, a former Governor of Zamfara State, currently has an advantage in the race for Senate Presidency.
However, he appealed to Yari to consider the greater good and allow a Southeasterner and a Christian to hold the position.
Shettima believed that having a Senate President from the South East would strengthen the country’s unity.
He also highlighted the well-accepted partnership between Senator Yari and Senator Kalu in the North, receiving silent endorsements nationwide.
Partnership and Appeals
Shettima expressed satisfaction with the strong partnership between the North and South represented by Senators Abdulaziz Yari and Orji Uzor Kalu.
While acknowledging Yari’s greater number of supporting Senators (42 compared to Kalu’s 27), he appealed to Yari to prioritize the future of the country during this critical time.
Shettima suggested that Yari consider accepting the position of Deputy Senate President, emphasizing that there is little difference between the roles of Senate President and Deputy Senate President.
Kalu’s Qualifications and Appeal:
Shettima reiterated that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is a competent, experienced, and peace-loving individual who has built relationships across all regions of Nigeria.
He emphasized Kalu’s close ties with President Tinubu and his family, as well as his strong connections to the North and South-South regions.
Shettima appealed to Yari to consider the appeal, believing that Kalu’s leadership as Senate President would be in the best interest of the country’s unity.
