The allegations of attacks in the Welega zone of the Oromia region in western Ethiopia that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians have concerned H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, the chairperson of the African Union Commission.

The Chairperson calls for a probe into these actions and expresses his sincere regret for the lives lost. He further exhorts the regional and federal governments of Ethiopia to take the necessary steps to safeguard all people, particularly minorities, and to guarantee that similar tragedies are avoided.
