As the transfer deadline approaches, Aston Villa is reportedly eyeing a move for Marco Asensio.
Unai Emery’s side is looking to add depth to their attacking options, and the 29-year-old Spain international is one of several players under consideration.
The window shuts on February 3, and Villa hopes to secure a deal for Asensio before then.
Aston Villa Seeks Reinforcements Following Duran’s Departure
A major shakeup at Villa Park looms, with leading scorer Jhon Duran nearing a £64.5 million move to Saudi club Al-Nassr.
This has left Unai Emery in need of attacking reinforcements, and Asensio is high on their list.
Villa believes securing Asensio on loan would be a relatively easy deal to pull off before the window closes.
Asensio’s Time at PSG and Potential Move
Asensio has been with Paris Saint-Germain since 2023, joining from Real Madrid.
Despite his solid contribution of seven goals in 47 appearances for PSG, the French club seems willing to part ways with the winger this winter.
His contract with PSG runs through June 2026, but he is being offered to several clubs, with Villa now emerging as a strong suitor.
Villa Exploring Other Transfer Options
While Asensio is a top target, Villa is also reportedly keeping an eye on other players.
Chelsea’s Joao Felix, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matheus Cunha, and Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel are also being considered, although Tel is further down their list of priorities.
Asensio’s European Experience Could Be Key for Villa
If the move goes through, Asensio would bring valuable experience to Villa Park.
His time at Real Madrid, where he won three UEFA Champions League titles, would make him an asset to a team looking to make an impact in Europe.
Villa secured a spot in the Champions League round of 16 this season, and adding Asensio to the mix would bolster their chances.
PSG’s Struggles and Asensio’s Future
Meanwhile, PSG is struggling to find consistency, having finished 15th in the Champions League group stage after a 4-1 win against Stuttgart.
They’ll now face Benfica in the knockout rounds.
Asensio, who was left out of the squad for that game, may be looking for a fresh start at a club where he could see more regular playing time.
