Arsenal vs. PSV Eindhoven postponed because of police shortage

Thursday’s Europa League match between Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven has been postponed due to a lack of police personnel following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last week.

This week, a massive police effort is required in London since the queen will lay in state between Wednesday and Monday, September 19th.

“The Uefa Europa League match between Arsenal FC and PSV Eindhoven, originally scheduled for Thursday, 15 September, has been postponed and a new date will be announced in due course,” Uefa announced on Monday.

This is owing to the severe limits on police resources and organizational challenges caused by the continuing events accompanying Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s national day of mourning.

Following the death of the queen on Thursday, all football matches in England and Scotland were postponed this weekend.

Sunday’s Premier League match between Arsenal and Brentford is also in jeopardy due to strained police resources.

The Gunners’ campaign is already scheduled to be disrupted by the first-ever midseason World Cup.

Outside of the impending international break, Mikel Arteta’s squad is scheduled to play every midweek until the World Cup break on November 13.

The group stages of Uefa’s club competitions will conclude on November 3, while the draws for the knockout rounds will take place on November 7.
