Archbishop of Canterbury’s Solidarity Visit
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has embarked on a solidarity visit to the Holy Land, specifically to the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem.
His visit officially commenced on Friday, October 20, 2023.
Attack on Al Ahli Anglican Hospital
Just two days prior to the start of Archbishop Welby’s visit, on the evening of October 17, the Al Ahli Anglican Hospital in Gaza was struck.
The incident has led to a series of accusations and exchanges between Hamas and Israel regarding responsibility for the attack.
Israeli Airstrike Hits Greek Orthodox Church Compound
Two days after the hospital incident, on Thursday, October 19, an Israeli airstrike in Gaza resulted in the collapse of a building located within the compound of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Porphyrius.
Tragically, this strike has resulted in 18 casualties, with several dozen individuals sustaining injuries, some of which are severe. There is a growing concern that the death toll may rise in the hours to come.
The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate has released a statement condemning the incident.
