Tottenham Hotspur manager, Ange Postecoglou, has made it clear that while the team’s European ambitions remain important, they must not lose sight of improving their standing in the Premier League.
As Spurs prepare to face Manchester United on Sunday, Postecoglou is determined to lift his squad out of their current rut in the domestic league.
Postecoglou’s League Ambitions
With Tottenham currently sitting in 14th place, just one spot and two points behind Manchester United, Postecoglou believes they have the quality to do much better.
The team is gearing up for the upcoming fixture with key players like James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, and Guglielmo Vicario returning from injury.
However, the Spurs boss insists the team can’t simply give up on their league aspirations.
“We can’t just throw in the towel and accept finishing where we are,” Postecoglou said.
“We need to aim for a better position.
Right now, where we stand doesn’t reflect the potential we have as a team, and it’s my job to get the best out of everyone.”
Returning Players Offering Hope
The return of key players is a significant boost for Tottenham as they aim to climb the table.
Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, and Wilson Odobert are also nearing full fitness, while Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Dominic Solanke are still a couple of weeks away from making their comeback.
Van de Ven, in particular, has faced ongoing issues with his hamstring, which have been compounded by his high-speed play.
The club has been working with external experts to better understand the strain his speed places on his body.
Despite these setbacks, both van de Ven and Romero have been active in training and Postecoglou is hopeful they’ll be back with the team soon.
A Much-Needed Break for Tottenham
The team has enjoyed a rare week off following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Aston Villa, which has allowed the squad to rest and regroup.
Postecoglou acknowledged that while the team is still carrying the weight of recent disappointments, the break presents a chance to reset and push forward with renewed energy.
“We’re still dealing with certain things,” Postecoglou explained.
“But this break gives us a natural opportunity to refocus and potentially change the course of our season.
Yes, we’ve had some setbacks, but now it’s about how we move forward and make the most of the returning players.”
With a refreshed mindset and a squad slowly regaining full strength, Postecoglou is confident that Tottenham can start to climb the table and turn their season around.
