Far-right influencer Andrew Tate is reported to have cultivated a connection with Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, allegedly as part of a strategy to ease legal pressure while facing serious charges in Romania.
According to a New York Times investigation, Tate used Barron’s supposed admiration to build rapport with both him and Donald Trump Jr., in an effort to gain influence with the former president during ongoing sex trafficking and assault investigations.
The Charges Against the Tate Brothers
Andrew and Tristan Tate, dual U.S.-British citizens, have been under investigation in Romania since 2022.
They face charges including human trafficking and coercing women into pornography, and Andrew is additionally accused of raping a 15-year-old.
The brothers also confront 21 charges in the U.K., encompassing rape, trafficking, and assault.
No charges have been filed against them in the U.S.
Initially, the Tates were barred from leaving Romania while prosecutors pursued their case.
However, sources suggest that Andrew Tate leveraged personal connections—including his ties to the Trump family—to secure his freedom.
Zoom Calls and Alleged Conversations
The Times reports that Andrew Tate spoke with Barron Trump, now 19, over Zoom last year.
The call also included mutual friend Justin Waller, who said the discussion touched on the Romanian case and efforts to “silence the red-pill brothers.”
According to Waller, Barron did not commit to helping the Tates legally but discussed supporting his father’s campaign on Andrew and Tristan’s social media platforms.
Waller described Barron as “not a bad ally to have,” highlighting the perceived strategic value of the conversation.
Lawyer Pushback
The Tate brothers’ attorney, Joseph McBride, emphasized that there was no official support from the Trump family regarding the Romanian legal case.
McBride clarified that Waller is a personal friend, not an authorized Trump spokesperson, and denied any coordination between the family and the Tates.
Social Media Influence and the “Manosphere”
Andrew and Tristan Tate built their massive online following by promoting entrepreneurship, wealth, and self-discipline, often framed in ways critics say emphasize control over women.
Barron Trump is credited with motivating his father to engage with this younger male audience during his presidential campaign, particularly through podcast and social media channels aligned with the “manosphere.”
Following the July 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump, Tate told reporters he had spoken with Barron.
“I’m very close to the Trump family,” he said, expressing intentions to meet the former president personally once freed.
Diplomatic Intervention Allegedly Played a Role
According to the Times, Tate received messages in January 2025 suggesting that the Trump administration was aware of his situation.
Shortly afterward, Romanian officials reportedly eased travel restrictions, allowing the brothers to depart for the U.S. on a private jet.
The investigation points to Richard Grenell, a Trump diplomatic envoy, as a possible intermediary.
Grenell allegedly discussed the case with Romanian officials, including former PM Victor Ponta and former foreign minister Emil Hurezeanu.
Ponta described the discussion as akin to handling “American hostages,” according to the report.
Grenell denied meeting the Tates or traveling to Romania, and both the White House and Romanian prosecutors stressed their independence in handling the legal proceedings.
A Complex Web of Influence
The NYT report portrays a tangled interplay of social media influence, alleged legal maneuvering, and international diplomatic connections.
While Andrew Tate maintains public confidence and highlights his ties to the Trump family, legal authorities insist the Romanian investigations remain independent.
