Andrei Karkar, Tech CEO and Son of Famous Ballerina, Arrested for Violent Sexual Assault in San Francisco on His 47th Birthday

Andrei Karkar, the CEO of a tech company and heir to a Silicon Valley legacy, was arrested on Saturday for a violent sexual assault at his luxury condo in San Francisco.

The arrest occurred on his 47th birthday, marking a troubling turn for the tech executive.

His mother, Natalia Makarova, is a renowned Russian ballerina, and his late father, Edward Karkar, founded Karkar Electronics, a prominent telecommunications company.

The Assault and Arrest

Police responded to a report of a sexual assault early on Saturday morning at a residence located on Fremont Street.

Karkar, who owns a $7 million condo in a luxury building on the same block, was identified as the suspect.

The victim told officers that she had been forcibly assaulted, leading to Karkar’s arrest.

Jail records show Karkar faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, rape by force, robbery, false imprisonment, and injuring a wireless communication device.

Karkar’s lawyer, Eric Safire, declined to comment, stating that no charges had been filed yet.

However, court records indicate that a sufficient probable cause filing was submitted.

Karkar’s Career and Family Background

Andrei Karkar is the CEO of ERAS Holdings, the family office that traces its roots back to his father’s company, Karkar Electronics.

The company played a significant role in telecommunications, particularly in developing voice and data communication systems adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense and NATO.

Karkar also serves on the boards of several organizations, including Canadian business The Metals Company and Estonian company Shepherd CMMS, though Shepherd CMMS has clarified that Karkar is not a board member, even though his company holds a stake in it.

Karkar, a Georgetown University graduate, comes from a family with a storied history.

His father, Edward Karkar, was one of the first Palestinians to immigrate to the U.S. and built a successful company that became a major supplier for defense contractors like Raytheon and AT&T.

A Legacy of Fame: Karkar’s Mother, Natalia Makarova

Andrei Karkar’s mother, Natalia Makarova, is a ballet legend in her own right.

Considered one of the greatest classical dancers in history, Makarova’s career includes prestigious honors such as a Tony Award, an Olivier Award, and an Astaire Award.

Born in the Soviet Union, she joined the Kirov Ballet as a teenager and later performed with the American Ballet Theatre.

Makarova married Edward Karkar in 1976, and they had their son in 1978. In 2012, she was honored by the Kennedy Center for her contributions to the arts.

This latest incident marks a dramatic shift in the Karkar family’s story, known for their influence in both the arts and the tech world.
