Anambra State Govt Reassures On Construction Of Strategic Roads

The Anambra State Government has said it will embark on construction of roads that have positive impact on the people.

The Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor disclosed this while giving an overview of the 2022 budget estimate of the Ministry before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works, in Awka.

House of Assembly correspondent Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that Engineer Ifejiofor who noted that Anambra State governorship election slowed speedy construction of roads that are strategic to the state, assured that now the election is over, the ministry will commence construction of roads in the hinterlands to fast-track development of the areas and will also take care of all the erosion sites in the state to safeguard Anambra from erosion menace ravaging parts of the state.

He also informed the committee that their 2022 budget proposal is twenty-three billion naira, ten billion naira will be channeled to the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, while the rest is for road construction and other infrastructural projects.

On his part, the Chairman of Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Works, Honourable Timothy Ifedioramma called for a paradigm shift from what the ministry used to do in terms of budgeting.

The lawmaker asked the committee to specify all the roads that will be constructed next year, as it will enable them to discharge their oversight duty efficiently, while the Chairman, Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Honourable Obinna Emeneka expressed satisfaction with the budget defense of the Ministry of Works and urged others to always come prepared to achieve a realistic budget.
