The Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, South East Zone, Mr Emmanuel Ifesinachi has charged journalists to always abide by the ethics of the profession in their activities.
Speaking during the end of the year get-together of the Anambra State Correspondent Chapels, in Awka, Mr Ifesinachi urged journalists to always use their position in promoting peace and unity in the society.
He said that he will use his new position as the leader of journalists in the South East to reposition various Councils of the Union for enhanced productivity.
In a remark, the Chairman of the Anambra State Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of journalists Mr Chukwujekwu Ilozue, who harped on the need for journalists to avoid acts capable of bringing the profession to ridicule, charged journalists to always cross check their stories before publication.
He thanked all that came to witness the event, especially the sponsor of the get- together, Mr Obini Onuchukwu, and stressed the need for journalists to always see themselves as people from the same family.
Addressing the gathering, a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and Manager News of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Rotarian Abuchi Nwozor, who described NUJ as primary constituency of all practicing journalists, called on the practitioners to desist from reports capable of causing confusion in the society.
Rotarian Nwozor promised to support programmes and policies that will reposition the State Council of the Nigeria Union of journalists.
