Navalny was sentenced to 13 years in a severe regime colony by prosecutors.
In last year’s prosecution for libel against a WWII veteran, the opposition politician was found guilty of insulting Judge Vera Akimova. In the case, Navalny was fined 850,000 rubles.
The court also found Navalny guilty of misusing funds raised for his headquarters and the Anti-Corruption Foundation (both of which are designated as extremist organizations) for personal gain.
More than 15 people were questioned in court. Fyodor Gorozhanko, a former Navalny Foundation staffer, was one of them.
As a witness, he appeared in court. In the past, Gorozhanko has had a tense relationship with Navalny’s associates.
However, contrary to expectations, Gorozhanko called the case absurd, spoke about the pressure and threats from investigators, as well as requirements to learn testimony by heart.
Gorozhanko then announced that he had left Russia.
