Alabama Community Mourns as Sports Reporter Christina Chambers and Husband Johnny Rimes Are Found Dead by Their Young Son in Hoover Home

A quiet neighborhood in Hoover, Alabama, was rocked by tragedy on Tuesday morning when a young boy discovered his parents dead at home.

Christina Chambers, 38, a respected sports correspondent, and her husband Johnny Rimes, 41, were found unresponsive from gunshot wounds.

Their three-year-old son, fortunately unharmed, was inside the home when the incident occurred.

The heartbreaking discovery came after concerned family members raised the alarm when the couple failed to attend a scheduled church event.

According to neighbors, Rimes’s father went to check on the couple, and it was the child who answered the door before family members found the devastating scene inside their $275,000, 2,158 square-foot home.

Murder-Suicide Investigation Underway

Police are investigating the deaths of Chambers and Rimes as a potential murder-suicide, though authorities have not confirmed who fired the fatal shots.

The couple had been married since 2021 and had lived in the neighborhood for seven years.

Neighbors described them as loving parents, but some sensed tension after the birth of their son.

Charles Maple, a nearby resident, reflected on the situation: “I was so shocked, but for some reason, I don’t know why, I wasn’t totally surprised.”

He added that Chambers never indicated any concern for her safety or that of her child, making the tragedy all the more incomprehensible.

Christina Chambers’ Career and Legacy

Chambers was a familiar face in Alabama and Georgia, covering collegiate and local high school sports with dedication and energy.

She studied communications at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) and competed as part of the women’s track and field team.

Her professional journey began at Fox affiliate WRBC in November 2015.

After marrying Rimes, she transitioned into education at a local high school, where she guided students interested in TV and film.

Her work earned her recognition from the Alabama Scholastic Press Association as the 2024 Advisor of the Year.

Even after becoming an educator, she occasionally freelanced for WBRC, most recently contributing to coverage of the 2025 football season.

Tributes Pour In from Colleagues

Chambers’ former employer, WBRC, shared a heartfelt statement mourning her loss:

“We are heartbroken to confirm the death of former WBRC reporter Christina Chambers.

Christina was a valued member of our newsroom and a beloved colleague whose warmth, humor, and passion for sports left a lasting impact on everyone who worked with her.

She was especially proud of her ties to UAB, high school sports, and her community.

We are praying for Christina’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”

WRBC reporters paid tearful tributes during the December 16 afternoon news broadcast.

One former coworker simply said, “Knowing Christina was knowing joy.”

Johnny Rimes’ Background

Johnny Rimes was a financial analyst at the American Case Iron Pipe Company for nearly 14 years.

Like his wife, he also attended UAB, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance and Financial Management Services.

A Community in Mourning

The sudden deaths of Christina Chambers and Johnny Rimes have left their family, friends, colleagues, and the Hoover community grappling with shock and sorrow.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
