Massive Appointment: Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Names 368 Aides

Governor Umo Eno’s Extensive Appointments

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has appointed a staggering 368 individuals as his personal assistants, marking a significant development in the state’s political landscape.

Inauguration of Appointees

The appointees officially began their roles on Sunday, October 1, with their formal inauguration scheduled for today, Monday, according to a statement by the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Enobong Uwah.

Selection Process

The 368 aides were chosen from every political ward in the state by political leaders, as revealed in the statement.

Context of the Appointments

These appointments come following the affirmation of Governor Umo Eno’s victory by the Akwa Ibom Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which was presided over by Justice Adekunle Adeleye on September 30.

Directive for Appointments

In May, shortly after his inauguration, Governor Eno issued a directive to political leaders in each ward to nominate one person from their respective wards for the role of his personal assistant.

Purpose of Appointments

The governor’s rationale for these appointments is to enhance his political influence and outreach across the state.

Similar Appointments Across States

Governor Umo Eno’s extensive appointments align with a trend observed in other states.

For instance, Kano State’s Governor Abba Yusuf appointed 94 social media influencers as media aides in September.

Prior to this, he had already appointed 44 social media influencers as “special reporters,” resulting in a total of 138 special reporters serving in his administration.
