After completing a £51 million deal for Erling Haaland, Manchester City are expected to pursue Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Norwegian’s transfer was finalized yesterday, with the former Dortmund player expressing his excitement at returning to his “boyhood club.”

Following Fernandinho’s departure, Pep Guardiola’s focus will shift to acquiring a defensive midfielder.

City considered a deal for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, who is poised to exit the club and is wanted by Manchester United.

According to Goal, City has chosen not to sign the Dutchman and will instead pursue Phillips.

The England international had a rough season due to injuries last time out, but he has pleased Guardiola with his passing, pressing, and ability to direct play from the base of midfield.

United were interested in signing Phillips, but he has ruled out a transfer to Old Trafford due to his ties to Leeds fans.

Signing Phillips would have been lot easier had Leeds been relegated, but the club remains realistic about their chances of keeping the England ace, who may cost roughly £60 million.
