Nigeria needs to invest more in human capacity building, education and empowerment of its people, which is the biggest asset aside from Oil and Gas.
This is according to the Group Managing Director of Afrinvest West Africa Limited and Chairman Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, Mr. Ike Chioke.
Mr. Chioke who was speaking in Lagos during a press conference on his book titled ‘Akpokuedike‘ which recounts the key accomplishments of the former governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano called for proper attention to education by creating a conducive learning environment right from primary school level.
He urged the government at all levels to make education a priority if they must tap the human capacity, therein.
”Nigeria’s biggest asset is not really oil and gas but actually human beings. The education in Nigeria at the primary level is broken. The environment is not conducive for learning. If you can’t read and write after primary school, you have failed already. Our fundamental should in the country is education and healthcare. If you can get those one right, we will then have the human being that can propel this country to a turn around in the decades ahead,’‘ he said.
Infrastructural development
The GMD Afrinvest West Africa Limited also used the occasion to recount his experiences during the time he worked under the former Governor, Willie Obiano, the man he described as a sincere leader who impacted in education and infrastructural development of the State, as he called on leaders across Nigeria to emulate him and have good intentions for leadership.
” Leaders must have good intentions and clear leadership purposes. Government has always misalligned priorities and always found it difficult to be honest with the fact. It will be good for all the leaders to go through the book and learn one or two things from Obiano’s leadership style,” he stated.
The Afrinvest boss however urged the general public, especially the leaders, to avail themselves of the opportunity of reading the book ‘ Akpokuedike’ which has fifteen chapters and two hundred and three pages.
