Betting options
BTTS
Both teams to score – this is not the best bet to blindly place on an Africa Cup of Nations game. Over the years, the tournaments have been low-scoring, particularly in the group stages.
In a competition without much preparation, defensive organisation might not be what it has been in the past. There are more talents on show at AFCON now than every before, so this year we may start seeing higher-scoring games.
Over/Under Goals
If you expect the tournament to remain low-scoring, then the Under bets are for you, where you can place wagers on matches to include under a certain amount of goals. Too much value is not placed on the tradition Under 2.5 bets because generally, everyone expects the leagues to be low scoring, so you may switch it up to Under 1.5 for the defensive fixtures.
Or if you are backing more goals, there will be definitely be some long-odds Overs shots and with games being played every day in the opening weeks of the tournament there is hope for some long-odds accumulators here as well.
To Qualify
You can have an accumulator on which teams you expect to qualify from the group, but in the latter stages you can also bet on a team to qualify from a draw rather than a win in 90 minutes.
This gives you more security as your bet will continue to ride into extra-time and even penalties with less pressure on the result within the normal ninety minutes.
To Win
This is for who will win the tournament or win the game. Early favourites to pick up the trophy and win the tournament outright include the likes of Senegal, Egypt and current reigning champions Tunisia, who are all in good shape to lift the trophy this time around.
You can also also back these and all other teams to win their individual matches and as above with the Under/Over goals bets, you can combine a few different games on markets like the Win, Draw, Over, Under to create a multiple bet and increase the potential returns.
To Reach the Final
Like the ‘To Qualify’ market, to reach final offers you the opportunity to place a slightly more secure bet than a 90 minute result bet, the ‘to reach the final’ market simply means you can bet on a team to get to the final two stage, whoever wins does not affect your placement.
As the AFCON matches continue, it is safe to make your own projections and conclusion using the results from previous matches played to make your bets, but remember that when the betting is no longer fun, you should stop.
