A bride in Washington surprised her husband with a black wedding dress after he was “underwhelmed” by her white dress during their first look, pulling off the ultimate wedding day prank.

Amanda Kitchingman Roban-Cook, age 28, and her husband Alex, who she began seeing in 2016, tied the knot in September, according to Insider. The couple met in Reno, Nevada, while working as EMT basics on ambulance night shifts. They currently reside in Washington, where Alex is a fireman and Amanda is a cardiac nurse.

Amanda stated that after their engagement in 2020, she began researching how to bring her vision for the perfect wedding garment to life. She told Insider that she was inspired by Morticia Addams from “The Addams Family” to make a black, caped garment.

A month before the wedding, which took place in a national park an hour north of Seattle, they chose to exchange private vows.

She added, “I had spent the greater part of a year working on that dress, designing that dress, and imagining what it would look like when I walked down the aisle, with him staring at me and his reaction.” She expressed concern that if they exchanged vows secretly, she would miss watching Alex’s live response to her outfit as she came down the aisle.

On their wedding day, she decided to surprise Alex by wearing not one, but two wedding dresses.

On the couple’s wedding day, they shared a passionate kiss.

Amanda said to Insider that she dug up a silver gown she purchased for $300 on Pinterest five years ago to wear for their first look and vows, deceiving Alex into believing it was the actual wedding dress.

She shared that she appreciates the fact that they have never stopped having fun together.

Amanda stated, “We both swore to never take ourselves too seriously and to never mature.” Especially in the beginning of our relationship, we played many practical jokes on one other.

Amanda observed a trace of disappointment in Alex’s eyes upon seeing her in the decoy dress, as he had earlier been so convinced that she would wear black. Amanda stated, “I don’t believe anyone else would have noticed, but I could see a hint of ‘What?’ on his face.”

Amanda’s dress featured a skirt that was detachable.

Fortunately, she had a change of style in store. With the assistance of two friends, she changed into her actual gown, a custom-designed, black, Lace & Liberty wedding dress inspired by Morticia Addams that cost approximately $5,000.

Amanda stated that she desired a gown with a cape veil, a lace overlay with star accents, and a detachable skirt that made her feel like a princess.

Amanda told Insider that Alex’s reaction made the prank worthwhile as she walked down the aisle with her father by her side. “I witnessed Alex’s awareness that this was an entirely different clothing,” she stated.

Amanda stated that Alex “lost it” when he saw her walking down the aisle in her actual wedding dress.

Alex, who rarely sheds tears, said she couldn’t help but shed a tear upon seeing Amanda in her real gown because it was so much more her style.

“He had to look away and ask for a tissue because he stated he was approximately two seconds away from ugly bawling at the altar,” she said. Not only Alex became emotional at seeing her in the black gown. She stated that there were a total of fifty people at their wedding.

Amanda stated, “I believe I made at least half of the audience weep.” Our extended relatives and friends were blown away.

And after spending so much time crafting her ideal wedding gown, Amanda stated that she has no intention of storing it. At the wedding, Amanda’s mother-in-law said that she could “put the dress away and never look at it again,” to which Amanda responded, “Absolutely not.”

Amanda stated that she intends to wear her wedding gown again.

“I must find an occasion to wear this, even if it’s simply walking through the park and frightening children,” she added.

Amanda told Insider that she may wear the outfit to an upcoming Seattle ball with a vampire theme.

She stated, “There is an opportunity to wear it again.”
