On Wednesday, the minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu, introduced a resolution of urgent national importance.
Concerns regarding the “deteriorating” working conditions of staff, as well as the wellbeing of convicts, were expressed during plenary.
Despite the N1 billion budget allotment in the 2020/2021 budget, the service’s Arms Unit still parades subpar weaponry, according to legislators.
Some issues resulting from the aviation sector’s activities were also discussed on the floor.
The MPs requested their aviation, human rights, and commerce committees to look into the state of Nigerian airports as well as airline operators’ and coordinating agencies’ operations.
This move followed a motion raised by Hon. Simon Karu, on the need to Investigate the poor performance and high charges by airline operators in Nigeria.
According to the lawmakers, the House is concerned that Nigerians have not enjoyed domestic air travel due to constant delays and cancellation of flights with impunity and change of airline departure time contrary to Regulations of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and in contravention of International Aviation Standards.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, has insisted that the resolution to investigate the state of Nigerian prisons under the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola has nothing to do with the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu.
