Nancy Lee Grahn calls out Carrie Underwood in Los Angeles for participating in Trump inauguration and skips Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance

Not everyone was excited when Carrie Underwood appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last Thursday to promote the 24th season of American Idol.

General Hospital star Nancy Lee Grahn made it very clear that she wasn’t tuning in.

“See ya next week @jimmykimmel,” Grahn posted on Threads, which she uses to reach her 600,000+ followers. She added, “I refuse to even look at @carrieunderwood.”

Clarifying the Boycott

The outspoken 69-year-old quickly addressed the media attention her post received.

On Saturday, she explained, “I LOVE Jimmy Kimmel & watch him every night. I would never ‘slam’ him.

I simply said I would watch him next week because I didn’t want to look at Carrie Underwood (for obvious reasons) who was his guest that night.”

The “obvious reason” refers to Underwood’s performance of America the Beautiful a cappella at President Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration.

At the time, the singer said she was “honored to be a small part” of the historic event and told People, “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Underwood’s Neutral Stance on Politics

Underwood has consistently tried to steer clear of politics in public.

The eight-time Grammy winner told The Guardian in 2019, “I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins. It’s crazy.

Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”

Grahn’s Political Advocacy

Grahn has long used her platform to voice her political beliefs.

At last year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, she carried a silver clutch reading Democracy Dies In Silence.

During her acceptance speech, she urged, “Our democracy is worth fighting for. And whether you have a platform or not, now is the time guys.

Now is the time to show up, stand up, speak up, stand up! Stand up! Stand up! Stand up and vote for it every chance you get.”

In 2022, Grahn made another political statement at the Emmys with accessories like a Bans Off Our Bodies purse, Choice earrings, and a Reproductive Freedom necklace.

She didn’t hold back on social media either, blasting Trump and political allies in a lengthy Saturday post, expressing frustration and anger at the current political landscape.

Advocacy and Activism Through the Years

Grahn’s political involvement isn’t new.

She backed Daytime for Gore/Lieberman in 2000 and Daytime for Choice in 1988.

Beyond politics, she is a well-known LGBTQIA activist.

Grahn’s Career Highlights

Since 1996, Grahn has played the headstrong lawyer Alexis Davis on General Hospital, which airs weekdays on ABC.

She also appeared on ABC’s One Life to Live (1978–1982) and NBC’s Santa Barbara (1985–1993).

Upcoming Fan Event and Personal Life

On February 21, Grahn will host a $190 private lunch at Maggiano’s in Boston, where fans can chat, take photos, and get autographs.

“We will be exercising our 1st Amendment Rights and talking about whatever the f*** we wanna talk about,” she said.

On a more personal note, Grahn will celebrate her daughter Kate Grahn’s 28th birthday on February 24, marking a happy moment amidst her busy professional and activist schedule.
