Federal Highway Patrol recovers red cloth containing suspected human bones concealed among passengers’ luggage on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State Nigeria

A routine patrol on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway took a dark turn for highway officers in Oyo State when they stumbled upon a disturbing sight.

During a standard stop-and-search operation, operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol discovered a red cloth concealing what appeared to be human bones and other unsettling items hidden among passengers’ luggage.

The shocking find occurred near Guru Maharaji Village and immediately raised alarms about a possible criminal plot.

The vehicle in question was heading from Lagos to Osogbo, and the driver, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was promptly detained.

Police Launch Investigation Into Suspected Corpse

Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident in a statement issued from Ibadan, explaining that the driver would face court charges once the investigation concluded.

Osifeso detailed, “The vehicle was intercepted during a routine operation along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

A search revealed a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be human remains, hidden among the luggage.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the origin and intended purpose of these items, and efforts are extending beyond Oyo State to identify and apprehend all individuals involved.”

The command reassured residents that the case was being handled with utmost professionalism, emphasizing the need for continued public cooperation in providing credible information to support law enforcement efforts.

Commitment to Justice and Public Safety

The police reiterated their dedication to bringing offenders to justice and maintaining peace across Oyo State.

Osifeso urged members of the public to remain vigilant and assist the authorities whenever possible, noting that community support is critical to ensuring overall safety on highways and within neighborhoods.

Fatal Construction Site Dispute in Ibadan

In a separate but equally tragic incident, the police confirmed a suspected murder at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan, reported to the Akanran Police Division.

Investigations revealed that a disagreement between two casual workers escalated into violence.

According to Osifeso, Lawal Ibrahim, 22, allegedly stabbed 18-year-old Raimi Ige with a broken bottle during the confrontation, causing fatal injuries.

The victim later died while being transported to the hospital.

The suspect was promptly arrested, and the body was taken to Adeoyo State Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Case Escalated to Homicide Unit

Given the severity of the crime, the Commissioner of Police ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for a discreet investigation.

Once the inquiry concludes, the suspect will be formally charged in court.

Reporting Emergencies

The police reminded residents that emergencies could be reported at any time through the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line 615, or via the Police Command control room at 08081768614 and 07055495413.

Prompt reporting, the police emphasized, remains a key element in curbing crime and ensuring swift action.
