Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is facing fresh headaches as his squad suffers another injury blow.
Striker Richarlison is set to miss around seven weeks after being forced off just 30 minutes into Saturday’s FA Cup defeat at Aston Villa.
The loss, Tottenham’s fourth in seven games, has piled pressure on Frank as he tries to steady his side.
Richarlison’s absence could stretch across the next 10 matches, including this weekend’s clash with West Ham and the highly anticipated North London derby next month.
He joins fellow forwards James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Mohammed Kudus on the sidelines, leaving Frank short of attacking options.
Spurs Seek Reinforcements Amid Injury Woes
There is a glimmer of hope for Frank in the form of new signing Conor Gallagher.
The England midfielder, acquired from Atletico Madrid for £35 million, provides a boost in the middle of the park.
But the Spurs boss admits that additional reinforcements are needed.
“We have to work with what we have, but Aston Villa showed more experience and quality in attack than we were able to match,” Frank said.
“We’re exploring the market to see if we can improve the squad, but it’s not just about a short-term fix.
Any signing needs to strengthen us now and in the long term.
We are certainly short of offensive players at the moment.”
With multiple attacking options out, the January transfer window could be crucial for Spurs as they seek to bolster their forward line and avoid further slip-ups in the league.
New Assistant Brings Experience and Integrity
In other club news, Tottenham have announced the appointment of former Ajax manager John Heitinga as Frank’s new assistant coach.
The decision was made with Frank’s direct involvement, who highlighted Heitinga’s extensive experience both as a player and a coach.
“He was a standout candidate,” Frank said.
“He has a top playing career and has also developed his coaching credentials through Ajax’s academy.
He’s worked his way up the hard way, dealing with pressure and expectations, and he brings integrity, character, and a deep understanding of the game. I’ve met him several times and the references were excellent — he’s the perfect fit.”
Heitinga’s arrival is expected to add tactical insight and stability to a Spurs squad navigating injuries and inconsistency, while also supporting Frank in developing younger players and refreshing training approaches.
Balancing Short-Term Needs with Long-Term Goals
Spurs are now in a delicate balancing act. With key players injured and important fixtures approaching, Frank must juggle immediate results with the club’s broader ambitions.
The upcoming North London derby will be a significant test, as will the hunt for reinforcements that can genuinely improve the squad.
“This isn’t just about the next few months,” Frank reiterated.
“We need decisions that make sense for the club both now and in the future.
It’s a challenging period, but it’s also an opportunity to get stronger.”
As Spurs contend with injuries, new appointments, and transfer decisions, fans will be watching closely to see how Frank navigates these challenges in the coming weeks.
