Nigerian Troops Neutralize Terrorists and Rescue Civilians in Borno State

Security forces under Operation HADIN KAI successfully struck a terrorist hideout in Konduga Local Government Area, Borno State, on Sunday, rescuing three kidnapped civilians and neutralising five armed men.

The offensive was conducted in close coordination with the Civilian Joint Task Force, targeting a known crossing point along the Sojiri axis in the early hours of the day.

Terrorists Neutralised, Civilians Rescued Without Casualties

According to Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), the operation was carried out with precision and professionalism:

“During the encounter, five terrorists were neutralised without any casualty to our troops, highlighting the combat effectiveness and operational readiness of our forces. Additionally, three abducted civilians were rescued safely.”

Security forces recovered AK-47 rifles and other materials from the site, further weakening the terrorists’ capabilities.

Troops Maintain Dominance Across North East

Lt. Col. Uba added that the operation demonstrates Operation HADIN KAI’s continued commitment to offensive action against terrorist elements while prioritising civilian safety.

“Troops’ morale remains high, and security forces continue to dominate the operational environment across the North East despite evolving security challenges,” he said.

The success underscores the ongoing partnership between the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups in tackling insurgency.

Nigerian Army Strikes Bandits in Kogi State

Elsewhere in Nigeria, the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army conducted operations against armed bandits in Kabba Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas, Kogi State.

The missions followed credible intelligence on bandit movements from Adankolo towards Agbadu Bunu.

During the patrols and ambush operations on January 3, 2026, troops neutralised three bandits and arrested a suspected logistics supplier supporting the criminal network.

Weapons and Ammunition Recovered From Bandits

Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, detailed the items recovered:

  • Two AK-47 rifles

  • One locally fabricated gun

  • 99 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

  • 11 cartridges

“During subsequent exploitation, troops traced the withdrawal route and discovered one more neutralised bandit, an additional AK-47 rifle, and seventeen rounds of ammunition,” he said.

These operations reflect the army’s continued vigilance in tackling both insurgency in the North East and banditry in other regions of Nigeria.

Security Forces Remain Alert Across Nigeria

Both offensives highlight the Nigerian Army’s proactive stance in maintaining security across the country. From counterterrorism to combating armed bandits, troops remain on high alert to protect civilians and restore order.
