Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton finalises deal to sign for Lyon as French club meets asking price after interest from West Ham and Ajax

It looks like Tyler Morton is finally getting the move he’s been chasing.

After spending last season out on loan and struggling for opportunities back at Liverpool, the 22-year-old midfielder is now on the verge of joining French side Lyon.

The deal is reportedly worth up to £15 million, and things are already looking close to completion.

Morton, an England U21 international and a product of Liverpool’s academy, had made it clear he needed regular first-team minutes to keep growing.

That’s led to interest from several clubs across Europe, including Ajax, West Ham, Strasbourg, and Sporting Braga.

But it’s Lyon who seem ready to meet Liverpool’s valuation—and the Reds have been firm in their demand for the full £15m.

Lack of Minutes Sparks Morton’s Departure

Last season, Morton was loaned out to Hull City in the Championship, where he impressed with his maturity and control in midfield.

However, once he returned to Anfield, things didn’t quite fall into place.

With Arne Slot taking over and guiding Liverpool to a Premier League title in his first season, opportunities for Morton were scarce.

He ended up making just six appearances in all competitions—hardly ideal for a young talent craving consistent football.

Now, Lyon could offer the environment he’s been seeking, and a fresh start in Ligue 1 may be exactly what he needs to take his career up a gear.

Darwin Nunez Draws Interest from Saudi Arabia and Beyond

In other Liverpool transfer news, Darwin Nunez remains a player attracting serious attention.

The Uruguayan forward is on the radar of Saudi Arabian giants Al Hilal, but Liverpool aren’t in a hurry to let him go.

They’ve already turned down offers from Al Nassr earlier this year and from Napoli more recently.

The club is said to be holding out for a hefty £70 million.

Newcastle have also included Nunez on their list of striker options, though he’s not at the very top of their shopping list.

Whether they circle back with a more concrete offer remains to be seen, especially as their interest in Alexander Isak is still lingering in the background.

New Leadership for Liverpool’s U18s

Meanwhile, on the youth development front, Liverpool have made a coaching change.

Simon Wiles, formerly part of Manchester United’s coaching setup, has been appointed as the new head coach for the U18 squad.

It’s a fresh chapter for the academy team, and Wiles will be expected to carry on the club’s strong tradition of nurturing homegrown talent—something Morton himself once benefited from.

What Could Happen Next?

With Morton’s move to Lyon nearly finalized and Nunez’s future still hanging in the balance, Liverpool’s transfer window is far from quiet.

Whether more players follow Morton out the door—or if the club finally makes a push for new signings like Isak—remains to be seen.

But one thing’s for sure: there’s more movement ahead at Anfield.
