Ohio State and Indiana Remain Unbeaten at the Top of College Football Rankings Ahead of Big Ten Title Game Clash

College football woke up Sunday to a rankings board that looked a little different from what we’ve grown used to.

Texas A&M, after two solid months parked inside the top five, finally slipped out.

And at the same time, Texas Tech climbed to a height it hasn’t touched in nearly two decades.

It was one of those weekends where the scoreboard chaos showed up immediately on the AP poll.

Unbeatens Hold Steady as the Big Ten Final Looms

The top two stayed exactly where they’ve been anchored for weeks: Ohio State at No. 1 and Indiana at No. 2.

They’re still the only teams with perfect records, and they’ll crash into each other in the Big Ten championship this coming Saturday — a meeting everyone’s been circling for seven straight polls.

Georgia, Oregon, and a Texas Tech Moment 17 Years in the Making

Behind the Big Ten giants, the reshuffling brought some upward momentum.

Georgia slid into No. 3 and Oregon followed at No. 4, each nudging forward by one place.

And then there’s Texas Tech — suddenly sitting at No. 5, a position it hasn’t enjoyed since that wild 2008 season when the Red Raiders spent three weeks at No. 2. It’s been a long journey back to those heights.

A&M Drops Back as the Familiar Faces Hold the Line

Mississippi held firm at No. 6, but right behind them came the big fall of the week.

Texas A&M, stung by its 10-point loss to Texas, tumbled four spots.

The rest of the top 10 stayed loyal to last week’s lineup: Oklahoma, Notre Dame, and Alabama filled out spots eight through 10 for a third consecutive poll.

Two Blockbuster Championship Games on Deck

The shake-up set the stage for an electric Saturday.

The Big Ten title showdown is one of two top-10 battles this weekend — the other being the SEC championship, where Georgia and Alabama will collide with everything on the line.
And the Big 12 gets in on the drama too: Texas Tech takes on No. 11 BYU in a matchup that suddenly feels much bigger than it looked a month ago.

The ACC Picture Clears as Miami Climbs

In the ACC’s corner of the rankings, No. 12 Miami and No. 13 Vanderbilt swapped places.

Miami earned the bump thanks to a commanding 31-point road win at Pittsburgh, giving the Hurricanes hope that the CFP selection committee will toss them an at-large lifeline.

Vanderbilt, oddly enough, dropped a spot despite beating Tennessee on the road by three touchdowns — a reminder that the rankings don’t always reward you exactly when you expect them to.

Group of Five Puts Four Teams in the Spotlight

It was also a banner week for the Group of Five, which landed a season-high four teams in the Top 25.

James Madison led the entire pack at No. 19 ahead of its Sun Belt title game against Troy on Friday.
Stacked behind the Dukes were American Conference contenders North Texas (20), Tulane (21), and Navy (24).

And for North Texas and Tulane, their Friday championship meeting adds another layer of stakes — and bragging rights — to an already packed weekend.

So… What Happens Now?

Championship weekend is practically begging for chaos.

Some teams are fighting for playoff survival, others for bowl positioning, and a few are trying to ride a nearly-perfect year straight into college football history.

No matter how the bracket shakes out, the next stretch of football is going to be loud, unpredictable, and probably unforgettable.
