Former professional footballer Neil Winstanley, who played for both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, has taken on an exciting new role in Cape Town.

The seasoned defender is now stepping into the world of education, bringing his vast football experience to a leading private school.

From Wits to the Premier Clubs

Winstanley’s football journey began at Wits University in the 1990s, where he quickly made a name for himself as a commanding presence in defense.

His performances caught the attention of South Africa’s top clubs, leading to a move to Kaizer Chiefs in 1999. Although his time at Chiefs was brief, it marked the start of an illustrious career that also included a notable stint at Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004.

After three seasons with Sundowns, Winstanley returned to Wits University to finish his playing career.

New Role at Reddam House Durbanville

Reports confirm that Winstanley has joined Reddam House Durbanville as the school’s new Sport Coordinator. According to a statement from the school, he will officially begin in the 2026 academic year.

“Neil will take a leading role in driving our Football Programme, with a clear focus on developing our players. He’ll work on strengthening our teams and also enhancing the overall structure and standard of football across the school.”

Shaping the Next Generation

In his new role, Winstanley will focus on nurturing young football talent. With his experience at top clubs and having been part of the 2004 Bafana Bafana AFCON squad, he brings invaluable insight into what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

The hope is that under his guidance, some of these students could one day follow in his footsteps and make a mark on South African football.
