New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd has shared a message from his hospital bed following a terrifying shooting incident in Manhattan over the weekend.
In an Instagram story posted Wednesday, Boyd appeared smiling in his hospital room and wrote, “God is real, God is powerful! I’m sorry I have no words at the moment… Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”
The 29-year-old’s post has offered a rare glimpse of positivity after what could have been a deadly encounter.
Shooting Outside Manhattan Hotspot
Boyd was reportedly shot at around 2 a.m. on Sunday outside Sei Less, a popular Asian-fusion restaurant near West 38th Street and Seventh Avenue.
According to NBC News, the bullet remains lodged in his lung.
The shooting reportedly erupted following a verbal dispute that escalated, prompting a gunman to fire two shots.
Police are actively searching for the suspect, who fled in a blue BMW.
No arrests have been made, and authorities released photos Monday seeking help from the public in identifying him.
Night Out Turned Dangerous
Reports suggest Boyd had been at Sei Less with Jets teammates linebacker Sherwood and wide receiver Charles.
The trio reportedly left the venue after Boyd felt uncomfortable with the “vibe” due to tension between other groups arguing inside.
Sei Less is known as a celebrity hotspot, frequented by names like Cardi B, 50 Cent, Kevin Hart, and Mark Wahlberg.
Coach Speaks About Boyd’s Condition
Jets coach Aaron Glenn spoke Wednesday about the cornerback’s condition and revealed that Boyd had recently become a father.
“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid and I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK,” Glenn said.
“I’m happy the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Glenn confirmed he had spoken to Boyd shortly after the incident and described him as being in “good spirits.”
He added, “That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits.
His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”
Recovery and Future Unclear
When asked about Boyd’s hospital release or his ability to return to football, Glenn said it was too early to tell.
“Don’t know just yet,” he admitted. “Just talking to him, he felt really upbeat.
There’s a ton of time to talk about football after this incident happened.”
Glenn also spoke about the impact on the team, emphasizing the shock of the situation: “When things like this happen, it’s easy for me to have conversations with a team, but it’s always hard.
You never want something like this to happen. That’s a scary situation.”
Community Sends Support
Since the shooting, fans, teammates, and members of the New York community have flooded social media with messages of support for Boyd and his family.
The cornerback’s positive update from the hospital has been met with relief and encouragement, as supporters pray for his continued recovery.
Boyd’s resilience and gratitude have been at the forefront since the incident, and while questions remain about his health and football career, his message clearly shows he’s focused on recovery and family first.
