Lil Nas X appears in Los Angeles court as the singer addresses felony assault charges stemming from his late night arrest in Studio City

Lil Nas X returned to court in Los Angeles looking far more settled than he did the night police found him wandering Ventura Boulevard in nothing but underwear and cowboy boots.

His legal team insists he’s “doing great,” and judging by the easy smile he wore as he stepped into the courtroom on Monday, they weren’t exaggerating.

The 26-year-old Grammy winner, known legally as Montero Lamar Hill, kept things understated in a leather jacket and beige trousers as he appeared before a judge for a short procedural hearing.

At this stage, the court was simply setting a timeline for what comes next in his case.

How a Late-Night Street Encounter Turned Into Felony Charges

Back in August, things looked very different.

According to police, officers spotted the Atlanta-born star around 4 a.m. in Studio City and approached him, which somehow escalated into a confrontation.

The encounter ended with authorities tasing him, and the entire moment—which was already surreal—was caught on video by a passing driver.

He ended the night in handcuffs, booked on four felony counts, three of which involve battery with injury on a peace officer.

If he’s convicted on every count, he could face as much as five years in state prison. He has pleaded not guilty.

Inside the Brief Court Appearance

Monday’s hearing barely lasted 10 minutes. Lil Nas X quietly sat beside his attorneys, occasionally sharing a soft laugh or a high-five with Christy O’Connor, one of the lawyers on his team.

His hands—freshly manicured—rested neatly on the table while his defense requested that the case be pushed to March 12 for the preliminary hearing.

His legal team, led by Drew Findling, looked upbeat.

“Montero is doing amazing,” Findling told reporters afterward. “We’re confident in a positive resolution.”

Recovery After the Arrest and a Message to Fans

The August arrest wasn’t just legally messy—it left the singer physically shaken as well.

Police rushed him to the hospital for what was described as a possible overdose shortly after his booking.

He later posted a video message to fans from his Instagram stories, trying to reassure the millions who had watched the drama unfold online.

“Your girl is gonna be okay,” he said with a tired smile.

“That was a terrifying last four days, but your girl is going to be alright.”

His attorneys later confirmed he sought treatment out of state following what they called a “public breakdown.”

Prosecutors Promise Tough Consequences

While his defense team has emphasized healing and stability, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman took a firmer tone.

In a public statement, he made it clear that the charges would not be softened simply because of Lil Nas X’s fame.

“Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals,” Hochman said.

“It’s a threat to public safety. Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences.”

A Star Who Has Weathered Highs and Lows

Before the legal trouble, Lil Nas X was known for his meteoric rise—from a viral country-rap hit recorded in his teenage bedroom to a chart-topping remix with Billy Ray Cyrus that reshaped pop culture in 2018.

He later collaborated with artists like Cardi B, DaBaby, and Jack Harlow, building a career marked by bold visuals and even bolder statements.

His attorneys say this chapter, difficult as it is, won’t define him.

“We’re doing what’s best for Montero,” Findling said.

“Personally, professionally, and for his well-being. He’s surrounded by people who love him.

He’s had a great life, and he’ll continue to have a great life. This is a bump—one he’s going to get over.”

What Comes Next?

The case moves forward in March, with Lil Nas X expected to continue treatment and stay compliant with previous court orders—including attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

For now, he appears focused, composed, and determined to move past the chaos of the summer.
