Community recycling centres across Bridgend may soon be closed for one day a week as part of cost-saving measures in the council’s medium-term financial strategy for 2023/24.

Three recycling centres in Maesteg, Brynmenin, and Tythegston would be affected by the plans.

The proposed closures are expected to begin later this year following a 12-week public consultation.

council said that the reduction in service would save around £50,000 a year from its annual budget.

Feedback from residents will be taken to decide on which days would be best for the closures in order to cause minimal disruption.

According to the report, closures would likely take place during weekdays, with weekends remaining unchanged due to the high volumes of use.

Council Leader Huw David clarified that weekends would not be selected for closure due to the high traffic of community recycling centers.

The consultation period will be available on the Bridgend County Borough Council website, along with an online survey, and will continue for around 12 weeks.

The decision to implement one-day closures has already been made, with the consultation focusing on the most suitable days of the week.

The council’s aim is to reduce its spending while causing the least amount of disruption to residents.

The recycling centers provide a vital service, and their closure could have a significant impact on the community.
