3D architecture can address housing deficit- Expert

 
 
The wholesale adoption of 3D architecture has been described as an effective means of addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

 
Busayo Durojaiye, an architect, stated this fact at the 3rd Nigerian Females in STEM (NigFISTEM) summit held in Abuja.

 
Durojaye noted that by leveraging on emerging technology such as 3D architecture, Nigeria would quickly create several housing options that are affordable and sustainable for the citizens to live in.

 
She also said that this would promote environmental sustainability.

 
“There are technologies that can help complete house building as quickly as five days.

There is 3D printing technology which uses concrete; it is more accurate and even eco-friendly.

It emits less greenhouse gases and as such is of immense benefit to the environment.

 Promoting 3D architecture will even gain more traction if women are at the forefront of this revolution,” Durojaiye added.

 
Nigeria’s housing deficit currently stands at 40 million.

Remi Hassan, convener of the NigFISTEM summit and Chief Executive Officer of High Tech Centre for Nigerian Women and Youths, said her organization was poised to train and empower Nigerian women to be at the forefront of pushing the nation’s drive towards rapid industrialization and development.

 
Hassan solicited for more government support in getting as many Nigerian women trained at all levels in the knowledge of STEM – especially in 3D architecture.

 
“The 3D architectural revolution is a novel one.

It will not just provide shelter for all, but also lead to a complete change in the concept of housing construction as focus would be on sustainability and efficiency.

We have gotten support from the United States Embassy in training our women in STEM.

The housing sector would also benefit maximally if more women are have the required knowledge and skills in 3D architecture,” she said.

 
The 3rd NigFISTEM summit attracted girls and women from the academia, private/public sector, legal profession as well as science and engineering.

 
The week-long training focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Blockchain Technology, Coding and lots more.
