NSCDC Arrests Mentally Ill 25-Year-Old for Allegedly Killing Father in Kano Residence

Arrest and Tragic Incident

The NSCDC in Kano apprehended Alkasim Ya’u, a mentally unstable 25-year-old, for the alleged killing of his father, Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed, in Tudun Yola ‘C’, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

Commandant Mohammed Falala confirmed the arrest, revealing that the incident occurred on January 5, 2024, at the residence of Salisu Bala.

Background and Circumstances

Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed had brought his son, suffering from mental illness linked to drug use, to a psychiatric hospital for treatment.

Upon returning to Tudun Yola, instead of heading back to Katsina, they stayed at the brother’s house at the same address.

It was during this time that the tragic altercation unfolded, resulting in the father’s injury and subsequent intervention by NSCDC operatives.

Police Intervention and Investigation

NSCDC officers intervened upon the son attacking his father, swiftly taking the injured man to the hospital and apprehending the suspect.

The family is arranging to transport the deceased to Katsina for burial, while the suspect and evidence are in the custody of the Rijiyar Zaki Divisional Police Office for further investigation.

This incident underscores the tragic consequences of mental health issues and substance abuse within communities, prompting swift action from law enforcement to address the situation.
