What started as an ordinary Saturday in Oregon ended with former Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan back in custody—this time alongside his fiancée of three years, Johnnie Faye Cartwright.
The pair were booked in Eugene after yet another run-in with the law.
Bryan Held Without Bail as Probation Issues Resurface
The 44-year-old actor, who grew up on screens as Brad Taylor, is currently sitting in Lane County Jail with no option for bail.
He’s expected to remain there until Wednesday as officials sort out a probation violation linked to his previous domestic-violence cases from 2020 and 2023.
His three-year probation still has nearly a year left, scheduled to wrap in October 2026, but this latest arrest throws that timeline into doubt.
Cartwright Also Facing a Long List of Charges
Meanwhile, Cartwright—32 and formerly a jetback instructor—is also being held.
Her charges include DUII, three counts of reckless endangerment, and attempted first-degree assault.
Both remain in custody as their cases move forward.
Three Young Children Caught in the Turmoil
Adding to the concerns, the couple share three young children: Kennedy, 3, and two-year-old twins Parker and Sequoia.
Their engagement, announced in 2022, once marked a new chapter—yet the events of the past few years continue to overshadow it.
A Troubled Pattern Spanning Several States
This latest arrest isn’t an isolated incident.
Earlier this year, in January, Bryan was accused of second-degree domestic violence in Myrtle Beach involving a woman with whom he shares children.
Before that, in 2023, he spent a week in the same Oregon jail and began a lengthy period of supervised probation.
His 2020 case required him to complete a batterer intervention program after yet another domestic-violence incident.
And beyond those, he’s faced multiple DUI arrests—one in Oklahoma in late 2024 and another in California earlier that same year.
A Restriction Order and More Allegations
As recently as July, an unnamed former girlfriend was granted a five-year restraining order against Bryan after she alleged physical abuse.
While no criminal charges were filed in that case, it added yet another troubling chapter to an already crowded history.
Bryan Speaks Out About Fame, Alcohol, and Responsibility
Just weeks ago, on November 11, Bryan opened up to TMZ about the darker side of childhood fame.
He described becoming famous at nine as overwhelming and admitted that starting to drink at fourteen set him on a path he has struggled to correct.
He made it clear, though, that none of that excuses his behavior: “Domestic violence in any form is unacceptable.”
He framed this period as a hard but necessary wake-up call as he tries to work through addiction, past decisions, and the impact they’ve had on people in his life.
Six Children Across Two Relationships
Beyond his young children with Cartwright, Bryan is also a father to four others from his marriage to his high-school sweetheart, Carly Matros: twins Gemma and Taylor, 11; Jordana, 9; and Pierce, 6.
That marriage ended in 2020, the same year many of his legal problems intensified.
Business Scandals and a Stalled Career
In 2023, The Hollywood Reporter published an investigation alleging Bryan pocketed around $50,000 through a fraudulent agriculture-technology start-up scheme.
Acting work has also slowed dramatically—his last appearance was a small role in Netflix’s The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!) back in 2022.
The Rise That Made Him a Household Name
For many, Bryan will always be the teen heartthrob from the ’90s sitcom Home Improvement, where he played Brad Taylor across all eight seasons from 1991 to 1999.
But the distance between that early success and his present-day troubles seems wider with every passing year.
