Netflix’s ‘Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons’ Returns: Raphael Rowe Faces Dangerous Criminals

Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons Returns to Netflix

The gripping series “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons” has made its comeback on Netflix, once again featuring TV presenter Raphael Rowe as he confronts some of the most perilous criminals across the globe.

In this latest series, which premiered last month, the 55-year-old broadcast journalist ventured inside four prisons in different countries: Bali, Indonesia, the Czech Republic, Finland, and the Solomon Islands.

Within the confines of these institutions, Raphael engaged in candid conversations with inmates, delving into the details of some of their most violent crimes.

Raphael Rowe’s Approach to Gaining Inmates’ Trust

Raphael Rowe recognizes the importance of maintaining a professional demeanor to establish trust with the inmates.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Star, he shared insights into his approach for getting inmates to open up about their criminal experiences.

He explained, “I’ve heard many stories about the violence that prisoners inflict on their victims. That’s not to say I desensitize myself.”

The Challenge of Professionalism

Raphael elaborated on the challenges he faces when confronted with horrifying crimes.

He mentioned, “Sometimes I cannot withhold my disgust and surprise, but that changes the dynamic of our conversation, so I have to be very professional in that I try not to show my true emotions regarding what they’ve told me.”

He acknowledged that maintaining professionalism is crucial, even when faced with disturbing accounts.

Emotions and the Solomon Islands

In the Solomon Islands, Raphael encountered inmates convicted of sexual offenses and, in some cases, he noted a lack of remorse.

He shared a harrowing example: “A man told me he killed his 10-year-old son because he stole a watermelon.

How do you react and respond to that? If I just said straight away that it’s shocking and horrible, he will shut down and not want to share more information.”

Raphael emphasized the complexity of his role, stating, “It’s about being professional, but that’s not to say I’m not emotionally and psychologically affected by what these people tell me.”

The Importance of Context

Raphael’s conversations in the Solomon Islands revealed the significance of understanding the context behind the crimes.

He recounted a story where a man, Christopher, sought revenge after his daughter was raped. Christopher’s actions, though extreme, gain a different perspective when viewed within this context.

Raphael emphasized, “The context of the conversation is really important to understand what we’re trying to portray about an individual who has committed a crime.”

In the world of “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons,” context plays a crucial role.

Raphael Rowe’s Impactful Series

Raphael Rowe’s exploration of the world’s most dangerous prisons continues to captivate viewers.

His series, “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons,” in its seventh installment, offers a unique and emotional journey into the lives of inmates and the context surrounding their crimes.

This compelling series is now available on Netflix, providing a thought-provoking perspective on the world behind prison walls.
