Wayne Rooney found himself the subject of ridicule after a geography challenge on the Overlap Fan Debate left fans shaking their heads.
The former Manchester United star and English football legend was tasked with pinpointing the locations of various Premier League stadiums on a map.
Unfortunately, his attempts to match the right places with their corresponding cities were anything but successful.
Rooney, who recently parted ways with his managerial role at Plymouth, joined the Overlap Fan Debate as the latest guest.
The segment, which included the geography puzzle, quickly turned into a comedic moment for viewers.
Rooney’s Aston Villa Blunder
The first slip-up came when Rooney wrongly identified the location of Aston Villa, placing it in Hereford, about 90 minutes away from Villa Park.
This error didn’t go unnoticed by his co-host, Jamie Carragher, who promptly corrected him, saying, “That’s not there.”
Rooney, clearly confused, shot back, “Well, where is it then?” The comment left the studio in stitches, and fans on social media were quick to jump in on the fun.
The Scouser’s Manchester Mix-Up
As if the Aston Villa mistake wasn’t enough, Rooney’s geographical knowledge continued to falter when he placed Manchester City’s badge directly in the heart of Liverpool.
Given that Rooney is a proud Scouser and began his career at Everton, his failure to recognize the geography of his hometown took everyone by surprise.
The studio’s reaction was filled with disbelief as Jamie Carragher once again pointed out the mistake.
Everton Gets Lost in Manchester
Rooney’s most cringe-worthy moment, however, came when he placed his boyhood club, Everton, over in Manchester, near the Etihad Stadium.
Carragher couldn’t hold back his laughter, blurting out, “Are you serious?” The mistake left the entire studio in fits of laughter, and the banter between the two football icons continued to unfold.
Despite the blunders, Rooney didn’t back down.
When Carragher pointed out the correct location for Everton in Liverpool, Rooney snapped back, saying, “It’s f***** the same place.”
Fans on Social Media Have a Field Day
The blunders didn’t go unnoticed by football fans, who flocked to social media to have a laugh at Rooney’s expense.
One fan wrote: “How can he have spent the first 18 years of his life in Liverpool and not realised you can see the sea?” Another quipped, “Wayne… Everton’s new ground not far from the old ground you’ve spent a chunk of your life is right by the water mate.
Fascinating human being.” A third fan added, “Putting Everton nowhere near water is absolutely phenomenal.”
Despite the slip-ups, it seems like everyone had a good laugh, and the segment ended up being a moment fans won’t soon forget.
